C'RIVER CSO ADVOCATES FOR PWD INCLUSIVITY IN HEALTH PROGRAMS

CALABAR - A Cross River State based Civil Society Organisation, known as Hope Ability Empowerment Initiative (HAEI) has called for enhanced inclusivity of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in health programs in Cross River State.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, yesterday, Dr. Mrs. Martina Ongbonya Ntino, CEO of HAEI highlighted the importance of improving access to health services for PWDs. She stressed the need for Sign Language Interpreters in public hospitals and inclusive health awareness activities, while expressing desire for HAEI to collaborate with the Ministry on future health awareness initiatives.

 According to Dr. Ntino, the visit which was aimed at advocating for increased accessibility and engagement of PWDs in public health services through the use of Sign Language Interpreters and other inclusive measures also availed the group the platform to congratulate the Commissioner on his recent appointment as Commissioner for Health.

Highlight of the visit was the presentation of Award of Excellence to Dr. Ayuk by HAEI, recognizing his significant contributions to the health sector in Cross River State and his support for Civil Society Organizations in health programs. The award acknowledged his exceptional performance and efforts to improve health standards for all residents of Cross River.

Dr. Ayuk expressed his gratitude to HAEI for the visit and the award. He assured that the ministry would consider HAEI's requests and emphasized that the ministry is always open to collaboration. He also informed HAEI about an upcoming medical outreach organized by the First Lady of Cross River State, set to take place in Nyahasang, Calabar Municipal, and encouraged HAEI to mobilize PWDs to participate
