REMOVAL OF C'RIVER SPEAKER: YOUTH-LED ORGANISATION BACKS LAWMAKERS, HARPS ON PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY



CALABAR - May 23, 2024 – Ready to Lead Africa (RTLA), a prominent youth-led organization dedicated to youth development and public accountability, has thrown its weight behind the recent removal of the Speaker of the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem. The Speaker was ousted by 17 out of 25 lawmakers on allegations of financial misconduct, incompetence, and negligence.

In a public statement, RTLA underscored its commitment to the values of public accountability, constitutional democracy, and the promotion of ethical leadership. The organization commended the lawmakers for their decisive action, highlighting the importance of transparency and integrity in public office.

"The allegations against the former Speaker are grave and underscore the need for stringent public accountability," the statement read. It is imperative that all public officials are held to the highest standards of ethical conduct, and any breach of these standards must be addressed promptly and thoroughly."

RTLA emphasized the significance of conducting the removal process within the legislative framework, viewing it as a testament to the strength of constitutional democracy.
