NYCN Election: 'We Want a Litigation-Free Election' - C'River Commissioner for Youth Development




CALABAR - The Commissioner for Youth Development in Cross River State, Barrister Ijom-odum Ukam, has expressed his satisfaction with the current election process for the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in the state. Addressing aspirants and the Electoral Committee (ELECO) during the confirmation of screening exercise, Barrister Ukam emphasized the importance of a peaceful and litigation-free election.

"Today I am a happy man, because this is the type of process to a youth council election that I have always dreamt of," Barrister Ukam stated. "The ELECO is driving the process and making it seamless without rancour, ensuring everyone is carried along. So far, no aspirant has complained and we are all happy with the process."

He praised the efforts of the ELECO, led by Prince Ndiyo Ndiyo, for their transparent and inclusive approach. "If things continue this way and we have a smooth and rancour-free election, then be rest assured that good things await the Council," he added.

Barrister Ukam also advised the aspirants, particularly those contesting for the chairmanship office, to maintain a spirit of sportsmanship. "For the aspirants, especially those contesting for the chairmanship office, let's not make it a do-or-die affair. Don't militarize the process. Even if you don't win, there's a package for everyone," he said.

He reminded everyone that the election would consist of two phases: the election proper and an after-party, both to be held at the same venue. This structure is designed to foster unity and camaraderie among the participants.

Prince Ndiyo Ndiyo, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, reiterated the committee's commitment to a fair and transparent election. He assured all aspirants that the process would adhere strictly to the guidelines and terms of reference provided.

The aspirants, who were present at the meeting, expressed their satisfaction with the process, engaging in a productive dialogue with the committee to seek clarifications and express their views.

The positive atmosphere surrounding the election process has raised hopes for a successful and harmonious outcome, setting a new standard for future elections within the National Youth Council of Nigeria in Cross River State.
